Getting to Prince of Wales Island is easy and rewarding. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Fly to Ketchikan
Ketchikan International Airport is the closest full-service airport to Prince of Wales Island, accessible via Delta and Alaska Airlines. Travel to Ketchikan is typically possible in a single day from most parts of the lower 48, including the East Coast.
2. Ketchikan to Prince of Wales Island
From Ketchikan, you have two options to reach Prince of Wales Island:
Island Air
Enjoy a scenic 30-minute flight from Ketchikan International to Klawock Airport on Prince of Wales Island.
Prices typically range around $400 per person round trip
(subject to change).
Inter-Island Ferry
Take a 3-hour ferry ride from Ketchikan to Hollis on Prince of Wales Island.
Round-trip fares are approximately $100 per person.
This option is affordable and offers incredible whale-watching opportunities and scenic views along the way.
3. Transportation to the Fishing House
Once you arrive on Prince of Wales Island, either:
A truck will be ready and waiting for you at the terminal,
OR
You will be shuttled directly to the house for a seamless transfer.
4. Food and Grocery Stores
Food is NOT included in your package, but there are grocery stores available on the island:
Klawock Grocery Store is conveniently located on the way to the house, allowing you to stock up on everything you’ll need for your stay.
The house provides a fully equipped kitchen, including cookware, dishware, and a barbecue grill, so you can prepare your meals just the way you like them. Don’t forget, you can also enjoy cooking your own fresh catch! There’s nothing better than freshly caught salmon or halibut!
